Fantasy Football Skills Pay College Bills

Welcome to Doha-2006.Com
Washington DC -- It has been a phenomenal first season for Family Fantasy Sports. The first and only fantasy football site created for family play recently awarded over $40,000 in contributions to the 529 college savings plans of winning players and families.
Using their fantasy football skills in free leagues at FamilyFantasySports.com, kids aged 15, 9, and 9 won $25,000, $10,000, and $5,000, respectively, in contributions to their qualified 529 college savings plans.
While athletic scholarships have long been a popular method of funding the rising cost of higher education, Family Fantasy Sports has now created a way for fantasy sports to help American families meet their higher education costs.
Jonah, the 15-year-old Grand Prize recipient from Chicago, was encouraged to play in a public fantasy football league by some friends from high school. Jonah has been playing fantasy sports for years and plays fantasy basketball in addition to football.
"I love sports and hanging out with my friends. The game was a great way for us to do something fun together, and getting money for college was pretty cool too!," he said.
An active basketball and soccer player himself, Jonah's favorite athlete is NBA hoopster Monta Ellis, and his game console of choice is the Xbox 360. His team, Irish11-1, played strong throughout the season, and was active on the waiver wires, picking up Matt Cassel and DeAngelo Williams en route to a first place finish during the regular season.
The First Prize winner, 9-year-old Jacob, lives in Virginia, but is a die-hard San Diego Chargers fan. His mom gave his older brother the project of finding a fantasy football game that the entire family could enjoy together. After a Google search, he came back with Family Fantasy Sports. This led to the birth of their 'first annual family league' in which everyone from grandparents to the youngest cousins got involved.
According to Jacob, "My biggest rivals were my aunt and my cousin." Jacob was the final seed to make the playoffs, but his team, Super-Bolts, got hot during the playoffs, winning his league's championship over his aunt's team and scoring well enough to capture the $10,000 college savings prize.
The Second Prize of $5,000 was awarded to 9-year-old Lily from Connecticut, who co-managed her team with her dad and little brother in a private league full of local Dads and their kids.
Lily's father, Michael, loved the idea of sharing fantasy sports with his kids. Michael explained, "I've been playing fantasy sports for 20 years, but getting my kids involved has been a lot of fun and brought some added excitement to the house on Sundays."
Lily is a huge New York Giants fan, as her team name "Big Blue Team" suggests. She enjoys swimming and playing tennis and also loves tap and jazz dance. Lily won the second prize by scoring the most points over the entire season among all of the non-playoff teams.
According to FamilyFantasySports.com's President David Tasner, "Our goal is to provide interactive opportunities that help families and friends have fun together and build stronger relationships. Our inaugural season has been a great success and our winners highlight the demand for free, fun family friendly entertainment."
The site's focus on fun, useful content and easy to use fantasy sports games has broadened the appeal of fantasy sports. Family Fantasy Sports' first season showed higher rates of participation among women and kids than traditional fantasy sports sites.
"We are already at work on new features for our site and for football 2009. We're also adding more tools and prizes to assist American families in managing the escalating costs of higher education," said David J. Miller, FamilyFantasySports.com's CEO.
